Greetings Lou! I can't believe it's nearly
October; there are great big pumpkins and rubber bats and witch hats
and those tangly synthetic spider webs in the store windows already!
Guess you can never be too early to buy!
A good and
busy month music-wise...SF Chocolate Festival, Cole Street Fair and
playing at the winery were definitely the highlights! The pic above
(and below) shows some of the beauty and serenity of the vineyard
and rolling hills we had as our backdrop!
Special
OCT 10 WomenROCK Benefit to raise awareness for GINA-Missing Persons
(see flyer on right panel) For those of you in the SF Bay
Area, we invite you to come out to this very special benefit at
which we and other fabulous WomenROCKers will be performing and
raising awareness to bring our local missing persons home. If you
can only make one event this year, I urge you make time for this
one-here's why:
WomenROCK will be throwing a party with great
music at the Starry Plough in order to raise funds for WomenROCK and
raise awareness for GINA-Missing Persons. WomenROCK is a collective
of local female musicians that, since its formation over 2 years
ago, has produced successful concerts to raise funds for local
non-profits and raise awareness around issues such as breast cancer, violence
against women and women’s
health.
GINA for Missing Persons
FOUNDation’s was created in honor of Gina Bos, who disappeared from
Lincoln, NE in October of 2000 after a performance. Each year, GINA
For Missing Persons produces The Squeaky Wheel™ Tour, a world-wide
event consisting of talented musicians performing shows and
profiling missing persons in their area-esp. those who don't get
media attention. On October 10, WomenROCK will be part of this tour,
profiling missing persons in our local Bay Area community. To date:
over 300 missing people profiled by GINA have been FOUND. See:
www.411Gina.org/squeakywheeltour.htm
The reason why I am
producing and performing in this very important event is that I was
so moved by GINA and the stories of those who've been found-like
this one:
Picture this...some
artist down on his luck has handed out his umpteenth DVD to
passersby, on the front of which is a picture of a missing little
girl. Some random guy takes the dvd, goes home, plays it while his
daughter is watching with him and she says, daddy, I know her-that's
the new girl down the street that I play with...just that simple act
was able to lead the cops-who had no previous leads-to the missing
girl and bring her back home...
Won't you please join me in
helping bring our missing home?
Stories Behind Push and Pull: the
seeds for Annalis
Thought it might be fun to tell you a little story in each
newsletter behind each of the songs on the new album, in no
particular order...for October, it's Annalis (which I finally
uploaded on myspace...) The seeds for the lamenting ballad of
Annalis (written on piano-a first for me) were planted when I was
riding a Ferrry across San Francisco Bay from Larkspur to San
Francisco and passed by San Quentin State Prison...images came to my
head of a convicted inmate so close to freedom and the sea air he
could taste it-yet so far away...and what he could possibly still
have left (or have lost) to live and die for...http://myspace.com/aoedemuse
Huge thanks as always to YOU for reading and
supporting and please write and update me! We couldn't do this
without you!
