Aoede-POP ROCK-News From the Muse-
JANUARY 2010

".....as I find myself being whisked away by the sounds of Aoede I need a copy of Push and Pull in the house, in the vehicle, in the studio and in my head all the time. I've added this gem to my own personal favorite collection, but then you will too once you've treated your ears to this masterpiece! Just remember....A-E-D!"

Push and Pull

Inspired, compelling stories of love, loss and longing spill out and take you, shake you, and wake you-emotionally evocative, intelligent, vocal driven *pop rock*...

Greetings:

up close and personal..  2010 we're here!

Wow! Had I imagined I'd be writing to you in 2010 when I first embarked on these musical stories? What a twisting and unexpected journey we're on together-art mimics life perhaps? I'm optimistic and feeling hopeful...
so...did you get out there and PLAY last month? It's a new year-and new opportunities are beckoning us to create-draw, paint, write poetry, sing, play music, bead, doodle-I hope you just do something to get in touch with your inner muse this month! No matter what life brings, I find when I am singing, playing or giving or getting inspired, I will be ok. My muse is coming through the piano this month-and I am learning and committing to practicing...

memorable musical moments...

I guess the most surprising and unexpected news received in December is that Aoede's 2008 album Push and Pull was selected by Womens Radio to be included in Womens Radio's Best Albums of the 2000s! Thank you! There were only 2 artists selected for 2008 so I am really touched! As a gift, I am giving a free download of Annalis-Just click on the link above to read and scroll down the page for the download under Aoede.

The highlights for December for me were playing with WomenROCK at Dolores Park Cafe (pics above and below). It was really fun to have Marianna on keys and vocals-Dave actually bowed his big bass-and to have the show of support from you-Thank YOU for coming out and making this such an enjoyable, memorable night! Especially you holding up Poor Blue and Mercury's In Retrograde signs and singing with me-that really put a smile on my face!

Thanks to Ziva Hadar for this photographic collage!

Lastly, I just want to thank John Walden our dedicated drummer-for all the time and energy he has put into Aoede-I always say it feels like we've added batteries to the songs whenever he plays with us-and he is supportive as can be-so if I haven't said it enough, thanks John!

Cool Stuff-check it out (sidebar) and let me know if you have stuff to include next time!

Stories Behind The Muse-ic-the seeds for The One Who Got Away

.
..
as usual, these stories are just for you-thank you for reading and making a connection! So, here are the seeds to some musical stories-ones we are asked to play often.

I was studying with a songwriting mentor for over a year and one of the assignments was to write a song using the technique we had been learning-secondary dominants for you theory folks. This little melody and chord progression kept going through my head and playing it led to a chorus and built a song about the guy who just won't accept that you are out of his life and for good...dedicated to those of you who can't seem to find closure in that one relationship-just tell em-"I don't want to keep replaying all the reasons I should stay and I won't spill salt water-maybe I'm just the one who got away."  You can click to watch a video of The One Who Got Away (Nashville).

Huge thanks as always to YOU for reading and supporting and please write and update me! We couldn't do this without you!

From a brochure of a car rental firm in Tokyo: WHEN PASSENGER OF FOOT HEAVE IN SIGHT, TOOTLE THE HORN. TRUMPET HIM MELODIOUSLY AT FIRST, BUT IF HE STILL OBSTACLES YOUR PASSAGE THEN TOOTLE HIM WITH VIGOR.
