Greetings Lou!
Yep, that's Dave with his big bass actually caught on camera-so rarely does it make it out for street events (of course, lets not mention again that the one time it is "out", Lis almost instantly breaks the pick-up by tripping on the cord with her cowboy boots...) So here's hoping that you are either welcoming or tolerating the holidays-I mean it-I've talked to some who can't wait for them to be over just to avoid the stress...not me-we were fortunate to celebrate Turkey-Day with friends who went all out for us, but I'm really looking forward to seeing and connecting with family soon. The holidays have never been about the "things" for me (but since my b-day is coming at the end of the month, and I'm all about the law of attraction and putting it out there, I do need a video camera to tape our shows...we have no youtube videos up yet!), and we're lucky if we can see family once a year since they are all out of state..
This month, I'm all about reaching out to you and thanking you for being there for and enabling us in so many ways. As I reflect on this past year, I continue to be amazed by your show of support. Here are a few highlights that stick out for me: all of you who performed and made an effort to be part of our special wedding cd release days in May; the emails from you responding to these newsletters or telling me how and why our music affects you; your support and belief demonstrated through buying our cd; seeing you at the Starry Plough (esp. Alex stepping in last minute, Greg photographing); you who joined us and Rob Owen and/or opened your houses up to us at points along our Northwest tour; working closely with you on the recording, distribution, and promotion of our first full album; and playing with, meeting, and becoming new friends and fans with so many of you at countless venues. Quite a year! I hope to continue to collaborate with you, share with you and grow with you over the next year. Here's hoping you can find time to reflect on your own highlights and on those who have made an impression on you during 2008 and maybe even tell them!
If You are wondering if there's anything you can do to help us this month...here are three that would be wonderful:
(1) 3 of Aoede's songs from Push and Pull are included on WomensRadio website-
Please vote for us as WomensRadio's Top Artist of 2008 (we are the first ones listed as of today) by clicking on : http://www.polldaddy.com/poll.aspx?p=1179365 This site also features other tunes by wonderful women artists like Jean Mazzei. This is one where Your vote can seriously make all the difference-there are around 10-20 artists included...
(2) Scratch the Surface on Song Vault...thx to you-it made it to the next tier, can get permanent placement with your help
Found out our song Scratch the Surface is making its way towards a permanent status on Songvault.fm but needs your help to get it there...go to:
http://www.songvault.fm/artists.htm?id=7742
to listen and promote it (a simple I like it-thumbs up) and thanks for your support!
(3) I just was on a music strategies call Saturday that was encouraging artists like me to remind their friends, co-workers and others that music CDs, like Push and Pull, make good holiday gifts-esp. instead of that $10 impulse box of chocolate for a co-worker or something for that Gift Exchange party. So if you email me directly, I'll give you a holiday discount of $10. If you buy 5 or more, I'll discount to $8 each through January.
If there are things I can do to help you, please let me know...
SHOWS (see side bar)
This Saturday, Dec 13 at Cafe Trieste in San Francisco, Aoede (unplugged) will be joined by Morey on mandolin to usher in some new never been heard by human ears original tunes and lend his melodic stylings to some of our signature tunes as part of WomenROCK's Variety Show (see shows for line-up of great WomenROCKers). AND since so many of you with little ones are asking when we are playing an earlier show, this one is 7:40 pm on a Sat-I am listening and will plan some shows in 2009 that are on a Sunday afternoon to accomodate you...
Stories Behind Push and Pull: the seeds for Scratch the Surface
Here's the little story behind Scratch The Surface (which you can find on my website-http://aoedemuse.com/track2.html and amazon, itunes-the lyrics are on www.aoedemuse.com under music). Just know that only You get these little stories...This is actually a song I wrote back in Sep 2005 about (and to) a particular object, and in each verse, I use similes to reveal the object in more and more detail. It's what to listen to when you want to reflect and go deeper. This song was handpicked to be included on a comp cd specifically for filmmakers at Temecula Film Festival so cross your fingers...if you write me an email guessing correctly what the object is I'm talking about in in the song, I'll send you a free mp3 of it from our sampler cd!
I thought I would add a What I'm listening to this month section to give a shout out to some great singer-songwriters and bands both near and far including some locals to check out:
http://www.thehotelcafetour.com/
in particular: Ingrid Michaelson, Meiko but they are are all awesome
some great locals who have been in my CD player this month: Stacy Kray, Alex Karweit, Grace Woods Trio, Vanessa Van Spall, Melissa Rapp, Valerie Orth, Unwoman, Jean Mazzei, Megan Slankard, Rob Owen, Josh Fixx
and one more time, Aoede's song I Lost, You Win will be on all American Airlines flights during January! If you fly it and hear it on Ch. 5, contact me and I'll send you the mp3.
Huge thanks as always to YOU for reading and supporting and please write and update me! We couldn't do this without you!
