Aoede-POP ROCK-News From the Muse-
OCTOBER 2009

".....as I find myself being whisked away by the sounds of Aoede I need a copy of Push and Pull in the house, in the vehicle, in the studio and in my head all the time. I've added this gem to my own personal favorite collection, but then you will too once you've treated your ears to this masterpiece! Just remember....A-E-D!"

Push and Pull

Inspired, compelling stories of love, loss and longing spill out and take you, shake you, and wake you-emotionally evocative, intelligent, vocal driven *pop rock*...

Greetings:

up close and personal..

How is it possible it is October already? Here in San Francisco, the fog, cool temps and my heater on at 1 pm are sure signs that Fall is knocking on my door...what happened to our notorious Indian Summer? Alas, I won't base my day or my happiness on what the weather is doing...I hope you are having a great month filled with good energy and positivity around you-not to get new-age-y or anything-just good vibes can really be effective! on to the music...

memorable musical moments...Blue Gold

Most memorable performance for me in September was playing to a wonderful supportive crowd at the Cole Street Festival (see picture). A great sunny day and a sweet, small community-so much fun interacting with the kids and adults and asking them to hold up signs and sing. But what I am most excited about is the release of our new song, Blue Gold, I highlighted in the last newsletter. First, I want to publicly thanks those of you who contributed at such short notice! (David Sands on Bass, Randy Burk on drums and percussion, Peter Dominguez on electric guitar, Nick Testa who recorded vocals, mixed and engineered for us). Since we released Blue Gold Sep 14, we have received a lot of positive feedback and support from organizations dealing with coastal issues, educators, music industry and some film makers. Folks such as Save the Bay and Coastal Commission staff for Coastal Cleanup Day have posted it on facebook and myspace, others like NOAA or Oikonos have shared with colleagues through news reports or word of mouth. We look forward to spreading the word and raising more awareness. Click here for the press release and click here to listen. Thanks to all of you who have listened, commented back to me or passed the song on to others!

For those who are interested, this year was the 25th Annual CA Coastal Cleanup Day, and with 65% of sites reporting, statewide count stands at 66,550 volunteers who have thusfar picked up 819,394 pounds of trash and 89,899 pounds of recyclable materials-totaling 909,294 pounds. Likely, the materials will total at least 1,000,000 pounds when all the data is in! People like you and me really do make a difference...Click here for more info including most unusual finds (click on prelim results press release at top).

SHOWS

As I mentioned last month, we are taking some time off to write and record..so we will be playing fewer Bay Area shows over the next few months...but

This month on WomenROCK: It's that time of the month again...join Aoede, Vanessa and many special WR guests for some soulful originals while you sit in a cozy cafe sipping hot drinks....BY THE WAY, Aoede has been co-hosting and performing WomenROCK acoustic showcase at the Bazaar for nearly three years in November! SO, we have decided to pass the baton to other WomenROCKers and also change venues (we'll let you know the venue and when we'll play next when it is confirmed!) So, the last WR show at the Bazaar will be WR's 3rd anniversary show Wednesday, November 18. I'll update you next month on that!

Stories Behind The Muse-ic-the seeds for Skeletons

...as usual, these stories are just for you-thank you for reading and making a connection! So, starting this month, I'm giving you the seeds to some unrecorded songs-but ones we are asked to play often-Skeletons is being recorded now.

So often I write based on others experiences and the way they affect me-a girl friend who expresses boy trouble for example, or is going through painful life-altering decisions. I found that writing about this was somehow easier than confronting my own feelings and actions. I'm all about connecting with my listener in ways that make you feel and experience parts of yourself. Yet I wasn't being honest with myself and therefore, you. Skeletons stemmed from my realization that it's so much easier to put pen to paper when it comes to writing what I've done or even reflecting on others...but it takes everything I've got to look inward and reflect on myself. I discovered that one of the main reasons I write is to get up close and personal with my own skeletons-I needed to bring my own private darkness to the page and to the stage. It has taken me a lifetime of not dealing with these skeletons to realize that song I wrote about you or some seemingly removed event is actually about me too..

Huge thanks as always to YOU for reading and supporting and please write and update me! We couldn't do this without you!
